| Unlike
paintball, lasertag is all about time management. This
is one of the hardest concepts for new players to grasp. Often,
new players spend the majority of their game trying not to get hit.
Though elimination
formats do exist, they are rarely used in public games so don’t
worry about being "tagged out".
Lasertag is all
about scoring the maximum amount of points in the time given. Hiding,
in the hopes of not getting hit, prevents you from achieving your
maximum potential.
This doesn’t
mean that you should walk around, out in the open, looking for opponents
to tag.
The key to maximizing
your potential is paying attention to what is going on in the arena.
Be close to the action, but not in the middle of it.
For example:
If you are in the middle of the arena on the lower level and you
are encountering no resistance, open your ears and listen. Do you
hear lots of footsteps on the floor above you?
If so, you might
want to go to a place that gives you a line of sight on the upstairs
and start sniping away. Are your teams’ base sirens going
off?
If so, you could
either choose to circle behind them and take them out or attack
their base. Either way, take action!
Find a good vantage
point where your back is covered (standing out in the open is not
a good idea)
Are you going
to get tagged? Of course. Even the best players get tagged. They
score well, though, because they are willing to seek out good vantage
points, even at the risk of getting tagged a few times. They go
where the action is and follow it, staying out of crossfires but
keeping plenty of opponents in view.
Remember: every
second that you are not tagging someone is points lost...
