2) Lasertron Operators Get Sneak Preview of 11.5 Laser Tag
Software Upgrade!

At Lasertron Corporation’s quarterly operators conference, current and potential operators got a chance to play with some of the new features of the LT 11.5 lasertag software upgrade.

Some of the new features include: game start/end countdown sounds in the arena (to let you know when your game is going to begin and end), new vest sounds (including a voice that helps players and offers tips during the game) and 3 new CHIPS (special power up modes).

"Spy mode was really neat" said Marc Mueller Manager of XP Laser Sport and an attendee of the conference. "When you were awarded the power up, your vest lights instantly turned to the opposing color. Because the other team wasn’t observant,
I was able to walk right in their base area without them giving me a second glance.

It was a different story once I started firing at the base because my original team lights flashed on for a second every time I fired.

I think this feature will not only give you a good way to get to the base and score points but will add some laughter and fun to the game when you get discovered."

The two other power ups are invisible mode (vest lights remain off until you fire then turn back off when not firing) and bonus mode (increases the point value of targets you tag
when you are a bonus player.

Player handicapping, on-going member stat recording and advanced role-playing game formats are just some of the other features of the upgrade.

XP Laser Sport is scheduled to be the FIRST location in the US to receive the upgrade...stay tuned!

3) Tournament Update... XP Teams continue to DOMINATE!

Franco's Xtreme Laser Tag in Waterford, Ct hosted the fourth regional tournament of the 2007 Lasertron World Championship season on April 28th and 29th.

Players from VA, MD, PA, NJ, NY, and CT came to Waterford.

The participants had a lot of fun and good time was had by all. "Was nice to meet you all, hope to see you again in
Buffalo this August" said Nathaniel Buxoeveden Aztec.

"If you ever want to arrange to get together and play let me know, we cant make the 3 hour trip too often but with some advance notice now and again we'd love to play with you all."

Some players were not happy with their performance though. Cannibal said..."well i was there it was my first reginal and i sucked a bit...". He went on to say..."ill be back
sooner or later once my game is up to par."

Marc Mueller, Sul Sa had this to say..."unfortunately we see this a lot with teams playing in their first Laser Tag Regional Event.

For many players, it's their first time playing the Official Tournament Formats, as well as playing together with their full team."

Mueller went on to say..."your first laser tag tournament is always the roughest. Once they have played the modes and have gotten that first lazertag tournament under their belts, they usually see a big growth spurt in their skills and teamwork."

Here are the final standings of the 8-player Team Sport with Modes Format:

1st Place: Team XP (Laurel, MD)

2nd Place: Extreme Dream Team (Waterford, CT)

3rd Place: Ricky's Team (players from PA, NJ, and NY)

Due to time constraints teams voted on which of the 4-player lasertag formats they wanted to play. In the end the teams voted for the "Team-Free-For-All" laser tag format.

Here's the top five 4-Player Team Line-ups:

1st Place: The Spartans- Cyberwolf, D-Train, Green Knight,
and Sul Sa

2nd Place: Casual Gods- Dragonfly, Ironman, Mr. Photon,
and Scorpion

3rd Place: Eastern Front- Aztec, Catscratch, Figaro, and Zagraf

4th Place: Extreme Dream Team- EDT-Dude, EDT-Mr. Meggie,
EDT-Sora, and EDT-Zamato

5th Place: Enraged Dragon Triplets (EDT2)- EDT-Havik,
EDT-Shinrai, EDT-Trajidy, and Gameboy

This tournament was one of the regional qualifiers leading up to the BIG $5,000+ 2007 Lasertron World Championships to be held in August in Buffalo, NY.

Later this Month XP Laser Sport will be sending teams to Lasertron in Buffalo, NY on June 23rd and 24th for the Lasertron Olympics.

6) "Taking It To the Next Level… Hints and Tips For Improving Your Game"

By Randy "Bhodi Li" Meding

The 2007 Lasertron World Championships is a little less than three months away and its time for players to really start the preparations which will determine success or defeat at
this highly competitive event.

Workouts stressing cardiovascular fitness, lower body strength and flexibility should be the main focus of anyone involved in competitive laser tag play.

Cardiovascular fitness is very important in laser tag. Although the LTWC game formats only run in six minute increments, there are no time-outs. All decision making, both
tactical and strategic, must be executed instantly, without hesitation.

Having good cardio fitness levels allow for increased oxygen to the brain which promotes better decision making ability.

Suggested exercises include skipping rope (this will also cover the lower body training covered in the next paragraph), cycling and any activity which keeps an elevated heart rate for more than minutes.

The ability to remain low behind obstacles while at the same time being mobile increases your ability to navigate through many arenas without being detected or at the least being a more difficult target to tag.

Static leg strength exercises will help in this area. Low stance training drills, such as those found in many martial arts styles, are an example of this type of exercises.

Since, at the tournament level of play, you are allowed to do straight vertical jumping to avoid being tagged, dynamic leg exercises must also be incorporated into your regiment.

Exercises that work the calf /hamstring area, such as jumping rope and in-place jumping, should be done on both level and inclined surfaces to simulate arena footing.

Flexibility training is equally important in your preparations. Proper flexibility in laser tag serves a two-fold purpose: injury prevention and tag avoidance. Unlike other sports that
play on a level playing surface, laser tag are usually multi-level (the better arenas) with ramps leading to the upper level.

This increases the chance for knee and ankle injuries which can be avoided with a good stretching regiment. Good torso/lower back flexibility helps players better move their bodies into positions which make their sensors more difficult to be tagged.

Being able to lean or arch your body to place sensors out of the opponents line of sight, as well as dodging/weaving (without throwing your back out) allow you to stay in play
longer and score more points.

Having fallen victim to oxygen deprivation (which equals poor decision making) as well as a catastrophic knee injury at the first World Championships has taught me, the hard way, the importance of proper physical preparedness.
